It is highly sexist to suggest that emotions have anything to do with allergy symptoms worsening during menstruation. That is an insult to intelligent women everywhere who are not stupid, and can tell the difference between emotions and actual physical symptoms. Studies do show that allergies and asthma can worsen due to hormonal changes. I would ditch any Doctor who says otherwise.

I have taken penicillin on many occasions without problem, but during my latest caesearean section (6 months ago) I went into anaphylactic shock about 3 mins after they administered penicillin via IV. Having now read yor article, it seems that maybe hormone levels were a contributing factor? Have you ever heard of similar cases? Interestingly, although the blood tests taken straight after the section revealed a significant penicillin allergy, when I was skin tested in the immunology clinic 6 weeks later, the skin tests showed up as negative for a penicillin allergy.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Many thanks

Hello Ruth As I say in my article on hormones and allergy, it is not at all uncommon for women's allergies to worsen during or around menstruation due to additional stresses on the body at that time as the hormonal balance changes. You may also be allergic to one of the hormones invovled in your period. That's not as far out as you might think, since allergies and emotions are often linked. You can develop an allergy to a body chemical (including hormone) that is unconsciously associated with a past trauma or time of high stress. You might want to you get yourself tested for hormone allergies, but really, you probably need a complete going over to identify just what's wrong. I am a concerned that you have been shown allergic to 40 foods. That indicates that there are fundamental problems underlying your allergies, perhaps toxic overload or unresolved emotions, hormonal imbalance, or a seriously compromised immune system. Unless the underlying problems are corrected, your allergies will continue to affect you, and may even spread. What questions should you be asking? Here are a few: Is my body overloaded with toxins that are weakening my immune system? Is my digestive system healthy or could I have leaky gut? Are my hormones out of balance? How healthy is my thyroid? my liver? Do I have a chronic infection from parasites, bacteria or fungus such as Candida? The point is, until you know what's making you ill, you can't treat it. Meanwhile, to reduce the burden on your system and give your immune system a break, you want to ensure that your diet is full of fresh vegetables, and that you avoid toxins in any form, including all those found in processed foods. You might be pleased to know that recent research shows that most food allergies are reactions to the additives in processed foods, not to natural foods. Even people with milk or egg allergies can sometimes tolerate organic milk and eggs, showing that it's often what's been added to the foods that is harmful....all those hormones, antibacterials, pesticides and other chemicals used in food production that can accumulate in our tissues. If you're located around SE Queensland, you might want to have a total health assessment. We use advanced bioresonance testing technology to identify many health problems, including allergies, and can also test your blood etc to find out the true state of your health. Then we could start getting your health back in order so that you can begin living a happy healthy life. I wish you the very best with your journey to health, Ruth. If we can help you, just email us at enquiries@rycentre.com, or get in touch with us through our website at www.renewyoujourney.com Dr. Dzung Price

I am convinced my allergies get worse every time I have a period. My current Dr. who uses many natural remedies says it is all emotional. While there is a componet of emtions, that cannot be all. My lastest test said I should not be eating approximately 40 different food and I am unable to make this change without loosing massive weight, which I can not afford. One person has referred me to an endocrinologist. How do I stop the cycle? What other questions should I be asking??

When I take birth control pill i have the following side effects

1. Heavier periods
2. fast heartbeat I can actually feel it thumping
3. depression
4. bad mood (yes i know this is common on birth control)
5. anxiety (panic all time)

I was wondering what with the rapid heartbeat and the heavier than normal period could i have had an allergic reaction to the pill, or the hormones in it?

since i stopped taking birth control pill
my period is back to normal
and my heart beat is better. (i do have a heart murmer)
And the anxiety has gone
i still have bad days but dont we all

should i have an allergy test?
